Job Description
The Property Maintenance & Handyperson is responsible for delivering high-quality preventative maintenance across all Arc-managed spaces, ensuring that facilities remain safe, functional, and compliant with WHS requirements.
The role provides hands-on maintenance support, identifies and mitigates WHS-related risks, and collaborates proactively with departments to resolve maintenance issues before they impact operations. A key responsibility is liaising with UNSW Estate Management on larger or specialised maintenance matters, ensuring timely escalation and coordinated outcomes.
The position also supports incident response, conducts regular inspections, assists with contractor coordination, and contributes to continuous improvement of Arc's asset and maintenance management practices.
KEY TASKS & ACCOUNTABILITIES
Conduct routine preventative maintenance across all Arc-operated spaces, including Roundhouse, Homeground, Retail, Sports facilities, and administrative offices.
Perform general repairs and upkeep (minor carpentry, painting, fixing fixtures and fittings)
Identify defects early and take timely corrective action.
Maintain maintenance logs, record completed work, and track outstanding tasks.
WHS Risk Management & Compliance
Identify maintenance-related WHS hazards and implement corrective actions.
Collaborate with departments to mitigate operational and safety risks.
Escalate significant hazards to the Building Services Supervisor and UNSW Estate Management.
Support investigations and corrective actions for WHS incidents involving facilities or equipment.
Ensure all activities comply with WHS legislation, SafeWork NSW guidance, and Arc WHS policy.
Act as Arc’s operational liaison for major repairs, defects, and specialist works requiring Estate Management support.
Submit, track, and follow up Estate Management work orders.
Coordinate access and communication for UNSW contractors.
Build strong working relationships across departments to understand operational needs.
Provide clear communication on maintenance timelines and task outcomes.
Offer practical advice on safe equipment use, storage, and risk minimisation.
Asset, Contractor & Equipment Management
Assist in updating Arc’s asset and equipment condition records.
Coordinate external contractors as required, ensuring compliance with Arc safety and induction processes.
Maintain tools, materials, and consumable inventory.
Assist with refurbishments, minor installations, fit-outs, and small project work.
Provide facilities-related support for events where required.
Desired Skills and Experience
Experience in a general maintenance, facilities, or handyman role
Ability to perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs
Knowledge of WHS principles and hazard identification
Experience liaising with contractors or facilities teams
