Our team is located on the University of New South Wales Art & Design campus in Paddington and runs a suite of unique programs tailored to Art & Design students including: Kudos, an offsite exhibition and programming pop up space, student publication: Framework, equipment loans, a regular program of social activities and events on and off campus, and maintain a student lounge and kitchen on campus. Arc Creative is staffed by a full time Manager, two casual student staff (that includes you!), as well as two Kudos Coordinators.

Job Description

The Social Activities coordinator is a front of house role in the Arc office on UNSW’s Paddington campus who will be responsible for assisting in the development, organisation and facilitating of weekly activations – to help Arc produce fun and engaging experiences for all students to get involved in, with a focus on Paddington campus’ community.

This is including but not limited to session parties, DJ workshops, Clothes Swap events, and anything and everything you can think of to bring life to Paddington Campus! As The Social Activities Officer it is your responsibility to assist in bringing excitement and culture to Paddington campus.

You will also be responsible for general administration, dealing with enquiries, subscribing members, promoting, and running activities and events on campus in liaison with the Art & Design Manager. The aim is to facilitate and promote access to services and opportunities for Art & Design students to actively participate in campus life, as well as providing information to enable them to access programs at Kensington campus. This role is based at UNSW’s Paddington campus and is required to work in person, remotely, or as directed by the Art & Design Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and promote a series of regular social events on campus in 2025. Including but not limited to, parties, lunchtime events, trivia, gallery crawl etc.
  • Attend to student enquires. Provide information, forms etc as necessary.
  • General tidy and maintenance of student areas as necessary including, but not limited to campus gardens, student lounge and Arc office.
  • Update notice boards on campus.
  • Update Arc Creative’s Facebook page and Instagram accounts.
  • Assist in the promotion of Arc Creative programs and membership benefits, including verbal promotion - talking to students in classes and at Arc events.
  • Assist in the promotion, recruitment, and management of campus volunteers.
  • Book or acquire required resources for running events and activities on campus, in liaison with Arc Creative team.
  • Conduct basic risk assessments for events and activities.
  • Assist with relevant Art & Design Department events and activities as required, including but not limited to O-Week and Community Day.
  • Liaise with clubs, societies, and other organisations to provide events and activities for Art & Design students.
  • Keep records, maintain files, and prepare monthly reports.
  • Attend to telephone messages and email correspondence.
  • Direct students and visitors to Art & Design campus to the relevant areas or person/s.
  • Maintain current knowledge of programs at Kensington campus and provide information about them to Art & Design students as required.
  • Provide general administrative and customer service support to ensure that the office runs smoothly daily.
  • Comply with all Work Health and Safety (WHS) policies and procedures of UNSW as well as Arc @ UNSW and take reasonable care to ensure the actions and omissions do not impact the Health and Safety of others in university and work place;

Perform all Arc required Cultural & Behavioural Competencies in satisfactory level.

Skills & experience

  • Current student studying at UNSW’s school of Art & Design in 2025.
  • Knowledge and experience of Art & Design and the local arts community.
  • Experience in a similar organisational environment, with knowledge of and ability to adhere to office systems and procedures.
  • An eye for detail and the ability to prioritize workloads.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams and to interact successfully with Art & design students, Arc and UNSW staff.
  • Well-developed oral and written communication and presentation skills to influence and gain contribution from diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong customer service focus and good interpersonal and organisational skills and evidence of ability to influence both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work with independently within set deadlines.
  • Evidence of creativity and innovative problem-solving.
  • Understanding and awareness of current issues that impact equity, diversity, and inclusion within the workplace.
  • Ability to maintain integrity of confidential information.
  • Knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) and Ethical Practice, along with the ability to apply these principles in the workplace.
  • An understanding of university students’ needs and ability to effectively incorporate these to enable and achieve student enrichment.

 

Desirable

  • Previous experience in volunteer programs or previous involvement in other campus activities.
  • Experience with events, DJ-ing, customer service, and project management
  • Demonstrated competent use of creative suite software for Macs (Indesign and Photoshop)
  • Current Drivers license.
  • Responsible Service of Alcohol qualification.
  • Good knowledge of the UNSW Paddington and local arts community.
  • Good understanding of potential Arc AD audiences and Marketing strategies;
  • Demonstrated awareness and interest in equity, diversity and inclusion.
