Arc Wellness is dedicated to putting students’ health and happiness first by creating a culture of care, connection, and proactive support. The Head of Wellbeing plays a central role in leading this mission: overseeing the Arc Wellness department, integrating basic needs and student support priorities, and shaping a student experience where wellbeing is embedded in everything we do.
This role is responsible for driving and delivering a holistic strategy that empowers students to take charge of their mental health, care for one another, and addresses real-life pressures like cost of living, basic needs, and access to care. Through impactful programs, campaigns, skill-building resources, and targeted training, the Head of Wellbeing ensures students are equipped with the skillset, toolset, and mindset to navigate their journey as young adults.
KEY TASKS & ACCOUNTABILITIES
Student Wellbeing & Basic Needs Support
• Integrate Arc Wellness and the basic needs suite into a cohesive, student-centered support system by developing a unified vision, consistent messaging, and accessible pathways for support.
• Strategy
Develop and deliver the strategic direction of Arc’s wellbeing and support efforts, including setting goals, creating operational KPTs, and aligning efforts with broader organisational priorities.
Provide strategic leadership across Arc’s basic needs initiatives (e.g. Food Hub, cost-of-living programs), working closely with program leads to create exceptional services that meet evolving student needs.
Stay informed on youth mental health and wellbeing trends to ensure Arc’s offerings are current, relevant, and effective.
Secure and manage strategic partnerships to support delivery of high-quality engagement activities.
• Student Program & Officer Oversight
Lead the direction and delivery of Place 2 Be and its related events, ensuring they are impactful, scalable, and aligned with student needs.
Recruit, train, and supervise the Place 2 Be Program Officer, providing guidance, rostering, and regular support to ensure their development and success.
Mentor and lead student officers in areas of volunteer management, event execution, and student engagement.
Monitor program operations, budgets, and key performance indicators, driving continuous improvement.
• Food Hub Oversight
Provide strategic and operational oversight of Food Hub, managing the Food Hub Coordinator to ensure the program is high-quality, sustainable, compliant, and aligned with Arc’s broader wellbeing and basic needs strategy.
• Literacy & Training
Develop and oversee key wellbeing messages for students through a clear, consistent, and impactful wellbeing curriculum.
Design, enhance, and deliver existing trainings for key student stakeholders (Club and Society Executives, Volunteers, Student Representative Council, Postgraduate Council, Student Casuals) with the aim to improve mental health literacy, help seeking behaviours, and ability for peer-to-peer support and referral.
• Content, Communications & Campaigns
Develop accessible resources for students, including brochures, flyers, and digital content grounded in evidence.
Collaborate with the Communications team to shape and manage the Wellness Instagram and digital campaigns, ensuring a strong, engaging presence that reflects Arc’s values and wellness goals.
Lead direction and management of flagship initiatives like Stress Less Week, shaping themes, logistics, and messaging.
Leadership & Operations
• Team Management
Manage and support the performance of permanent staff within the Wellness department, providing guidance, mentorship, and professional development opportunities.
Ensure that individual portfolios are operating effectively and that the broader team works collaboratively and cohesively.
Promote a high-performing, values-aligned team culture that centers students and prioritises inclusion, wellbeing, and community building.
• Oversee the Wellness and basic needs budget lines, including forecasting, spending, and monthly financial reporting.
• Monitor departmental performance and report on key metrics, KPTs, and department impact.
• Represent the Wellness department within Arc and UNSW, acting as a key ambassador for the impact of student-led initiatives.
• Contribute to organisational improvement through collaborative projects, reporting, and shared initiatives with other departments.
• Provide administrative assistance to the Director of Student Programs and Wellbeing as required, for example with; writing reports and grant applications and research.
Staff Wellbeing
• Contribute to Arc’s staff wellbeing communications by ideating and writing wellbeing posts (e.g. Wellness Wednesday), ensuring content is relevant, supportive, and reflective of the organisation’s values.
• Collaborate with the Human Resources Department, and the Director of Student Programs & Wellbeing to design and deliver wellbeing-focused events and initiatives that foster a positive workplace culture.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
SELECTION CRITERIA
• Proven understanding and experience in student wellbeing, mental health promotion, and basic needs within a youth context.
• Demonstrated project planning skills, including experience in planning, overseeing and finalising the completion of complex projects.
• Demonstrated experience in volunteer management, student engagement, and event planning and delivery, including the ability to lead and support teams to execute high-quality, student-centred initiatives.
• Proven ability to develop and implement strategic plans and key performance targets, with experience aligning programs to broader organisational goals and priorities.
• Strong leadership and people management skills, including the ability to supervise staff, foster team culture, and support professional development in values-aligned ways.
• Experience in stakeholder engagement and partnership development, including collaboration with internal teams and external organisations to deliver impactful initiatives.
• Proven experience managing budgets, monitoring performance metrics, and using data and evaluation to drive continuous improvement.
• Highly developed communication skills, including the ability to create engaging written content, deliver training, and write reports.
• High attention to detail with proven organisational and administration skills and the ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines.
• Demonstrated passion and enthusiasm for student life on campus, non-academic programs and services offered to students at Arc @ UNSW.
