About The Role

The Volunteering Manager leads Arc’s Volunteering department, driving the delivery of impactful services, events, and programs that support the UNSW student community and beyond. The department also empowers student volunteers to give back, build meaningful connections, and develop valuable skills through inclusive and purpose-driven opportunities.

This role provides strategic and operational leadership across student programs, staff management, volunteer engagement, and the front office portfolio. The Volunteering Manager oversees the delivery of high-quality initiatives and services, mentors a team of professional and student staff, and ensures programs are aligned with student needs and organisational goals.

KEY TASKS & ACCOUNTABILITIES

Student Program & Officer Oversight
• Lead the direction and delivery of a number of student programs and their related events, ensuring they are impactful, scalable, and aligned with student needs.
• Recruit, train, and supervise Program Officers for said programs, providing guidance, rostering, and regular support to ensure their development and success.
• Monitor program operations, budgets, and key performance indicators, driving continuous improvement and stakeholder collaboration to enhance engagement and impact.

Team Management
• Manage and support the performance of permanent staff within the Volunteering department, providing guidance, mentorship, and professional development opportunities.
• Ensure that individual portfolios are operating effectively and that the broader team works collaboratively and cohesively.
• Promote a high-performing, values-aligned team culture that centres students and prioritises inclusion, wellbeing, and community building.

Front Office Oversight
• Provide high-level oversight of Arc’s front office operations by managing the Front Office Coordinator and supporting them to deliver high-quality, student-focused services.
• Ensure the Front Office Coordinator is equipped to lead the day-to-day running of reception, including bookings, resource management, customer service, and general office upkeep.
• Provide strategic oversight of Arc’s front office, ensuring reception services, resources, and daily operations remain welcoming, efficient, and student focused.

Volunteer Strategy & Experience
• Collaborate with the Director of Student Programs & Wellbeing to develop and deliver the strategic direction of Arc Volunteering, including setting goals, creating operational KPTs, and aligning efforts with broader organisational priorities.
• Lead and facilitate volunteer experience initiatives including recruitment, onboarding, training, recognition, and morale-building across all volunteer programs.
• Lead the development and implementation of systems and processes that enhance program delivery, volunteer tracking, data collection, and long-term planning.

Departmental Operations
• Manage the volunteering budget lines, including forecasting, spending, and monthly financial reporting.
• Monitor and report on key metrics, KPTs, and department impact.
|• Collaborate with stakeholders internally and externally to support the department and deliver high-quality engagement activities.
• Represent the Volunteering department within Arc and UNSW, acting as a key ambassador for the impact of student-led initiatives.
• Contribute to organisational improvement through collaborative projects, reporting, and shared initiatives with other departments.

Desired Skills and Experience

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
SELECTION CRITERIA
• Passionate about the primary objectives of the department.
• Experience coordinating, mentoring and supporting volunteers.
• Demonstrated project planning skills, including experience in planning, overseeing and finalising the completion of projects.
• Experience ideating, creating, facilitating and finalising complex projects and programs.
• High attention to detail with proven organisational and administration skills and the ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines.
• The ability to coach and mentor others in the areas of leadership, volunteer management, project management, events management, & people management.
• Demonstrated passion and enthusiasm about student life on campus, non-academic programs and services offered to students at Arc @ UNSW.
• Interpersonal skills and the ability to positively engage with key stakeholders, staff, and UNSW students.
• Strong ethical and professional work attitude.
